Medical massage, therapeutic massage, and injury recovery
Medical massage is a broad descriptive term that generally applies to therapeutic massage treatments for specific injuries or chronic painful conditions. The massage therapist chooses techniques based on the condition being treated and may include hot or cold therapies to reduce pain and speed recovery. A series of medical massage treatments at specific intervals is usually recommended. A patient may be referred for treatment by their physician or chiropractor and, if the treatments are considered medically necessary, they may qualify for coverage under some health insurance plans, auto insurance personal injury protection plans or Labor and Industries if the injury or condition is work related. Cascadia Massage is able to bill many insurance plans. Please ask for more information. Medical massage sessions are 60 minutes long.
When a massage is used to treat injury, it helps to increase capillarisation. Capillarisation is the increased size of blood vessels. The larger size of blood vessels allows more blood to flow through the body. Capillarisation happens during massage by creating friction against the skin and increasing temperature. Increased capillarisation in the circulatory system is beneficial to improve the amount of blood being delivered to the area of injury. Increased blood flow transports more oxygen and nutrients to help assist with the repair of damaged cells. Massage helps to speed up the recovery period after an injury. |
A common cause of pain is muscle tightness. When muscles are tight, movement is restricted. Massage aims to relieve pain to help encourage and increase movement to relieve muscle tightness. A decrease in pain occurs when muscle elasticity and flexibility is improved and decreases muscle tightness. When muscle tightness is relieved, pain reduces with it. Allowing movement to increase encourages muscles to stretch and loosen to further relieve muscle tightness.

Pain can cause stress levels to increase, relaxation levels to decrease and feelings of frustration or anxiety to arise due to the inability to work, exercise or care for yourself and others the way you used to. Our massage therapists use massage Techniques to help improve relaxation and relieve symptoms of stress and anxiety. Calming the nervouse system provides relief and increases your ability to cope with the process of recovering from your injury.

Will massage make a difference in my recovery?
A common benefit gained through massage is increased healing. After an injury or surgery a variety of negative effects can occur within the body. Common negative effects that occur after injury or surgery include swelling, pain, muscle tightness and stress. A massage helps to speed up recovery by increasing healing to help reduce the negative effects, allowing a person to return to their normal daily activities. Research is ongoing providing evidence as to the effectiveness of massage therapy in injury recovery.
Testimonials
Bryan R.I began going to Cascadia to help with my chronic neck pain due to a car accident. I have received treatment from both Cathleen and Charity, they were both excellent. I schedule a visit at least 1x per month. The atmosphere is relaxing, calming, and supportive. The therapists are very well trained, and they have a lot of flexibility with scheduling. They also take some insurance!

Chris L.I recently injured my shoulder playing baseball and was in need of care. I went to Cascadia Center for Massage and had a wonderful experience. First off, they were able to accommodate my schedule with their Saturday hours. I was also impressed with the clinics layout. It is beautiful, quite, and has large confortable massage rooms.
I left the massage with greater range of motion and less pain with motion. I will definitely continue care with Cascadia and would recommend them to all. |
